Valentine Hearts

Ingredients:

  • 1 sheet puff pastry
  • 4 servings beaten egg, for glazing
  • 4 servings castor sugar, for sprinkling
  • 8 tablespoons crème fraiche (you can also use whipped cream or mascarpone)
  • 100 g fresh strawberries, sliced
  • 0.5 cup plain chocolate, melted

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 220 degrees C (425 F).
  2. Thaw the puff pastry sheet according to the instructions on the box.
  3. Unroll the pastry sheet and cut out around 8 hearts using a heart-shaped cookie cutter. You can use a medium-sized cutter from a set.
  4. Prick each heart with a fork, then brush them with beaten egg and sprinkle lightly with some sugar.
  5. Place the hearts on a greased baking sheet and bake for about 10 minutes until they are risen and golden brown in color.
  6. Let the hearts cool completely.
  7. Slice the strawberries and split each heart horizontally using a sharp knife.
  8. Sandwich the hearts together with crème fraiche and sliced strawberries.
  9. Drizzle the melted chocolate over the hearts and dust some castor sugar on top.
